New Large store for Emmaus North Staffs

CHARITY Emmaus North Staffs have opened the doors to a brand new huge store in Hanley – said to be the biggest in the country.

The new site – which can be found at the previous GO Outdoors building in Hall Street –  is home to a variety of home and furniture items – including white goods – as well as clothing for all ages.

The 60,000 square feet shop also boasts an antique section along with a community area, which has a children’s section and cafe style seating, where teas and coffees will soon be served.

The charity – who work to end furniture poverty – first opened the store to the general public on Monday 14 October, after two weeks of preparations following the closure of their emporium and Potteries Centre shop.

Executive Lead of Emmaus North Staffs, John Webbe said: “We are delighted with our new home as we can show more to our customers.

“Previous to the move we had two separate locations – our emporium was in Etruria and we had a shop in the Potteries Centre – which was brilliant – but we needed more space.

“Now we have everything under one roof which makes things a lot easier for customers to view items, but also for when we are preparing furniture items to be delivered to the local households who we support.”

John adds: “Due to the size of the new premises we are said to be the largest charity shop in the country now – which is incredible.

“Everything we do as a charity is to work towards ending furniture poverty and we hope that being able to now stock more items we can have a greater impact in our local area.”

Emmaus North Staffs support 850 local households each year by supplying furniture items to those who cannot afford them. This can include beds, settees, chairs, tables as well as wardrobes, draws and appliances.

The charity store in Hanley will be open to the public six days a week – Monday (10am to 5pm) and Saturday (10am to 4pm).

In September this year Emmaus North Staffs were crowned the winners of the Business in the Community – Charity category at the Staffordshire University (now called University of Staffordshire) Business Awards.
