Stoke-on-Trent parks receive prestigious award

Green-Flag-Award-Burslem-Park

Three Stoke-on-Trent parks have been recognised for their beauty in a national competition.

Burslem Park, Longton Park and Park Hall Country Park are among 1,970 UK parks and green spaces – and 131 in 13 other countries around the world – that have received a prestigious Green Flag in the annual awards.

The international award is a sign to the public that the space boasts high environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

Councillor Carl Edwards, cabinet member for the environment said: “We are thrilled to be receiving Green Flag Awards for three of our parks this year. Our teams and park partnership volunteers are committed to maintaining our parks to a high standard for our residents to enjoy. We are dedicated to refreshing our green spaces and are looking forward to showcasing the hard work that has gone into rejuvenating Hanley Park. I’d like to thank all those who work tirelessly to keep our parks clean and maintained for our city.”

Councillor Lorraine Beardmore, cabinet member for sport, culture and leisure said: “Parks are important places for our residents. They offer a whole host of benefits including the space for residents to keep active and for families to spend quality family time together.  From community events to sports activities, our parks are there for our residents and visitors to enjoy. This award celebrates the fabulous work that goes into maintaining our green spaces and ensuring everybody can continue to enjoy them.”

Friends of Burslem Park group member, Mike Watson said: “It’s brilliant for the park to have won the Green Flag Award for the seventh year running. Our volunteers have a great relationship with the park’s maintenance staff – the award is down to all of the hard work that goes into the upkeep of the park.”
