TOM, DICK & HARRY PLAY FLIES INTO LONDON FROM THE NEW VIC

Tom-Dick-Harry-cast-New-Vic

Critically-acclaimed New Vic production Tom, Dick & Harry, based on the true story of the most daring escape attempt in World War history, is transferring to London’s Alexandra Palace.

Cast members escaped to the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery in Hanley recently to see the world-famous Spitfire designed by Reginald Mitchell in celebration of the show ‘flying’ into London after a successful run at Basford’s New Vic Theatre.

Alexandra Palace played host to refugees in both WW1 and WW2 and in 1940 became a staging area for troops returning from Dunkirk. The Alexandra Palace theatre is being specially transformed to be ‘in-the-round’ like the New Vic for the duration of the play, performed there from Tuesday 26 July to Saturday 28 August.

Tom, Dick & Harry tells the true story behind the breakout of prisoners of war from Stalag Luft III, made famous by the film The Great Escape starring Steve McQueen. It has been inspired by top secret information from the National Archives in London which was classified until 1972. Brought to the stage by the team behind Around the World in 80 Days, it is co-produced by Kenny Wax Productions and co-written by New Vic favourites Andrew Pollard and Michael Hugo, and New Vic Artistic Director Theresa Heskins, who also directs the play.

Tom, Dick & Harry co-writer Michael Hugo said: “I think it’s wonderful that shows in this theatre are being invited to go elsewhere so that people can see them. It’s a story that is still fresh, because of the humour and reality of these people, it’s still alive.”

Stoke-on-Trent City Councillor Lorraine Beardmore, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Public Health, said: “We were delighted to welcome the cast of Tom, Dick & Harry to the glorious Spitfire Gallery in The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery. The show has captivated audiences at the New Vic Theatre and I would encourage everyone to see it.”

Tom, Dick & Harry is at the Alexandra Palace in London from Tuesday 26 July to Saturday 28 August 2022. For more information visit tomdickharryonstage.com
