Driving Entrepreneur Success with Start A Small UK Business book

Two Staffordshire business advisors are helping budding entrepreneurs and startups to kickstart their new ventures.

With four decades of experience working within high profile corporate roles, Sandra Brookes and Peter Ball, set up their own consultancy – Bluebell Business – in 2010.

Over the last 13 years the pair, both of Staffordshire, have supported hundreds of entrepreneurs and start-up businesses.

Providing mentoring at the Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, as well as at educational establishments – Keele University and Staffordshire University – has also been a major part of their work – which they continue to do.

This all led to a new venture of their own and three years ago the experts set about writing a business educational guide to act as a support resource for startups.

On 28, November 2021, ‘Start A Small UK Business’ was published and has since been widely used within business mentoring sessions delivered at the

Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce where hundreds of books have been distributed.

“It was a big decision to publish the book,” says Sandra.

“There is no complicated language used in the book, which is really a guide, and we were adamant we wanted to offer useful tools which would be used for the right reasons to help others on their journey.

“Working within the corporate world ourselves and also starting our own business – both myself and Peter fully understand and appreciate the complexities of going alone and we just want to help as much as we can.”

Tom Nadin, Head of Projects and Business, at Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, said: “Staffordshire Chambers is proud to have supported both Sandra and Pete with the launch of their Start A Small UK Business book.

“Over the last two years we have rolled the book out, alongside a number of our existing start-up programmes, to support individuals who are considering starting and growing their own businesses.

“This fantastic resource compliments our workshops and provides delegates with a range of additional support, advice and templates that they can access for years to come. Feedback has been fantastic from delegates as well as our wider stakeholders and we are excited to continue to work with them both in the future.”

The paperback and digital book has also been used to help entrepreneurs on the Peter Coates MSc in Entrepreneurship at Staffordshire University – which launched in January 2023.

Peter added: “In the last two years we have seen how the key driving elements within the book, which are designed to help those starting out on their own, to not just understand what business is but to work through
challenges faced on a daily basis.

“We’ve included advice on budgets and forecasting to marketing and knowing your audience – again all simplified without any jargon.

“It’s been great to see our resource shared amongst so many including at the Chambers and University’s and we look forward to continuing to do that.”

Various interactive digital templates and tools are also available via startupbusinessplanning.co.uk – all uniquely designed by Sandra and Peter.

“We designed all the templates ourselves – again making them as simple to use as possible but incredibly effective,” said Peter.

“When a book is purchased access is granted to a unique online account, which can be referred to for extra support with a personal business development process.”
