Staffordshire Staycation for Half-Term

Families looking for something active, adventurous or fun to do during the May half term holidays are being urged to opt for a Staffordshire staycation to help support local tourist attractions.

The county is attraction central, with hundreds of exciting places to visit and with further easing of Covid-19 restrictions, many have now reopened.

Staffordshire is home to the National Memorial Arboretum – where there are more than 400 memorials including the iconic Armed Forces Memorial, set in 150 acres of maturing woodland and gardens to explore. In East Staffordshire, don’t forget to visit the National Brewery Centre in Burton, where they’ve added mind-boggling Escape Rooms, and nearby The National Forest Adventure Farm where there is fun for the whole family.

The county’s country parks, canal network and outdoor spaces including the Peak District National Park, National Forest and Cannock Chase offer beautiful scenery and picturesque views for lovers of nature. With numerous different trails, people can walk, bike, hike and explore the countryside at their leisure.

If the weather did happen to take a turn for the worse, Staffordshire has plenty of indoor attractions families can visit. Tamworth Castle has just opened a brand new ‘Battle & Tribute’ exhibition and launched an exciting AR trail – plus there’s real snow fun at the Snow Dome where visitors can ice-skate, ski, toboggan and snowboard to their hearts content.

Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills at Staffordshire County Council, Philip White said:  “Staffordshire truly is an amazing county to visit with so much on offer. A staycation is a great option. Not only do you get the chance to explore our amazing attractions but you’ll also be supporting local businesses after what has been a tough trading year for them.  So whether it’s our theme parks, wonderful food and drink businesses, museums or small attractions, we’ll have something for everyone. It’s important to remember that some restrictions remain in place and booking is essential at most attractions, so please visit their websites and Facebook pages for details before visiting.”

The county’s visitor economy is worth around £1.87 billion annually with around 28 million day or overnight trips made to the county each year. The sector also supports around 32,000 jobs.

Other Staffordshire attractions include Alton Towers who have just launched their brand new ride, ‘Gangsta Granny’ which was inspired by The World of David Walliams and named after the infamous Walliams children’s book. With more than 40 rides and world-class rollercoasters, CBeebies Land and Grade 1 listed gardens, there’s a great day-out in store.

Thrill seekers can also check out Drayton Manor Park for more adrenaline-filled excitement while children can say hello to Thomas and friends at the world-famous Thomas Land.

A wealth of delights also await visitors at many attractions including the Trentham Estate with a huge choice of eateries, shops, formal gardens and the popular fairy trail around the lake. Families can also drop in and say hello to the monkeys at neighbouring Trentham Monkey Forest, where they can walk amongst two troops of wild Barbary Macaques, roaming free in 60 acres of beautiful Staffordshire Forest.
