Silent Cinema Returns: Phantom of the Opera with Live Music in Fenton
Stoke-on-Trent is set for a unique cinematic event in November as The Phantom of the Opera (1925) returns to the big screen with a live musical performance by acclaimed quartet Minima.
The event takes place at The Ballroom, Fenton Town Hall on Sunday 2nd November 2025 at 7pm.
Marking 100 years of one of cinema’s greatest silent films, this atmospheric classic stars the legendary Lon Chaney, famously known as the “Man of a Thousand Faces.”
The film tells the haunting story of a mysterious figure lurking beneath the Paris Opera House, driven by obsession, vengeance, and an impossible love.
Audiences will also experience vivid tinted scenes and a rare Technicolor segment, preserving the magic of early cinema.

Restoke is hosting the company at Fenton Town Hall, having restored and reopened The Ballroom as a vibrant new community arts venue for Stoke-on-Trent.
Minima, celebrated for their modern live scores for silent films, will perform live, blending instruments to create a rich, immersive soundscape.
The quartet has previously brought silent films to life at prestigious venues including BFI Southbank, Glastonbury Festival, and the Barbican Centre, and their performance in Fenton promises to deliver a fresh intensity to this gothic masterpiece.
Gregory Hall from Minima said: “The Ballroom is a fantastic venue and the perfect setting for The Phantom of the Opera.
“Fenton Town Hall and Restoke make and programme fantastic work, and we’re delighted to be part of it.”
The timing of the event is special, coinciding not only with the film’s centenary but also Stoke-on-Trent’s 100th anniversary as a city, creating a perfect local celebration of culture and history.
