Robin Hood Review – The Regent

robin-hood-the-regent

Robin Hood at The Regent, in Hanley has all the traditional ingredients for a festive family treat – with extra trimmings added in for a delightful Christmas wrap.

Friar Tuck (Christian Patterson) and Robin Hood (Jonny Wilkes)

The charismatic combination of Jonny Wilkes – in his 13th year of Panto at The Regent – and Christian Patterson – who has wooed audiences in Hanley for 10 years in the same vein – work so fittingly in delivering another spectacle of a show.

As Robin Hood, Jonny is keen to marry his beloved Maid Marion (Finley Guy), but not only does he have to overcome the hilarious shenanigans from the mischievous Friar Tuck (Christian Patterson), he also has to fend off the more threatening evil arms of The Sheriff of Stokingham, played by the ever convincing Kai Owen.

As the merry men are introduced the audience is in uproar when Little John (Peter Bonner), Will Scarlet (Delme Thomas) join Robin and Friar Tuck as they plan their mission to rid The Sheriff of Stokingham from the forest.

The Spirit of Sherwood (Rebecca Lisewski) lands a helping hand to Robin and his men as they embark on their travels into the devilish and dark underworld of the forest. At this point the audience is invited to wear the 3D glasses provided and sit back and hold on to their seats! The 3D affects are without doubt impressive – and evoke screams from the audience members – young and old.

As the adventures continue Friar Tuck’s costumes get louder and more comical by the minute – in true Panto style – and simply brilliant.

The audience is also treated to take part in some toilet roll throwing in scenes which not only leave you in fits of laughter, but also has the convincing, hilarious, Delme Thomas as Will Scarlet, panting for breath.

It must be said Delme Thomas is genius throughout, vocals from Rebecca Liseweski are superb and the ensemble is excellent.

With one liner jokes, and the traditional references to Stoke-on-Trent – Robin Hood at The Regent has all you would want for a Panto – especially a Potteries Panto!
