Recipients for Culture and Events Project grants revealed
Eight recipients of Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Culture and Events Project grants have been announced.
In August the City Council announced the launch of the Culture and Events Project grants totalling £75,000 of support, enabling organisations to create more cultural activities for residents and visitors to the city.
B Arts, Frontline Dance, Claybody Theatre Company, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, The Portland Inn Project, Urban Wilderness, The Hub Fenton, and Bolton Gate Arts were all successful with funding bids.
Grants were available for up to £10,000 per organisation to fund a cultural event or activity.
Cllr Lorraine Beardmore, cabinet member for culture, leisure, and public health said: “We are delighted to offer eight Culture and Events Project grants to local organisations. This funding is part of half a million of support the City Council is offering to help enhance cultural activities across the city. We had a number of diverse applications, with plenty of exciting activities planned over the next few months.”
Alexis Johnson, Wild Wellbeing Lead for Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, said: “We’re thrilled to receive this funding so we can connect more Stoke-on-Trent people with the amazing green spaces in the city. We’ve got lots of exciting plans; from running Wildlings, Forest School style sessions for toddlers and parents, Wild Yoga, and Wildfamilies, right through to activities focused on improving mental health and wellbeing.
“We’ll also develop a mindfulness audio trail encouraging people to connect to the local landscape; connecting locals to the landscape. And we’ll create videos of local green spaces to be played in doctors’ surgery waiting rooms. At the end of the project we’ll hold a celebration event, helping even more people to get the most out of their local spaces. They’ll be able to take part in nature-inspired workshops with local artists and learn how they can help encourage more nature into their own outdoor spaces.”
Projects funded by the Culture and Events Project grants will need to be delivered by March 2023, as per the eligibility criteria.
