Phoenix Occupational Health split services to volunteer for the NHS
A Stoke-on-Trent business owner and her staff have joined the NHS fight against Covid-19 while continuing to offer vital Occupational Health Advice to local companies.
Lyndsey Marchant, an experienced former Royal Navy nurse, runs Phoenix Occupational Health, a successful business working with companies across the UK to support good health in the workplace.
As the coronavirus pandemic began to hit hard, Lyndsey made the decision to split her time between ensuring her company keeps going and helping the NHS.

“I’m a nurse and as such my first priority is to serve and the NHS needs all the help it can get right now,” said Lyndsey. “I’m working shifts supporting the NHS by manning their Covid-19 advice line. This means I can give callers the benefit of my experience and help NHS staff to take a break at this incredibly busy time.
“But I am not the only one helping. Wendy Gould, one of Phoenix’s nurses, is on site with the NHS doing swab testing. This puts Wendy on the frontline and at risk and I’m thrilled that she’s volunteering as it makes a real difference.”
Lyndsey is continuing to run Burslem-based Phoenix Occupational Health – services have been adapted during the current health crisis and the company is running a Covid-19 advice line for companies.
Lyndsey adds: “We have seen instances where employees have been signed off by their companies because of an underlying health condition. In some cases they have been told to “shield” for 12 weeks based on the wrong advice. This could be bad for the employee both in terms of their physical and mental health and we may be able to get them back to work again. If employees need to shield then it is vital they do so, but this decision should be taken with the support of a health professional.
“In other cases, employees may have been sent to work from home and are suffering because their equipment isn’t set up properly. We are advising companies on how to set up people’s home offices so that they can work efficiently and in comfort. It isn’t just about physical health, studies show that mental health can suffer if people are working in isolation and we are helping businesses to support their workers.”
Phoenix OH provides a range of health services to companies. Founded in 2011, the company has more than doubled its staff in recent times and moved to bigger offices at the Burslem Enterprise Centre in 2019.
