Emma Palin, experience and heritage coordinator at Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme, commented: “We are grateful for the generous donation of The Sentinel newspapers from a local person who found them when clearing a relative’s house.
“They thought we might like them for the Belong Heritage Gallery which documents the history of the building (the town’s oldest), as well as the area.
“The pages are very delicate and we’ve had them restored and framed specially using UV glass to ensure they don’t fade in sunlight. The stories offer a fascinating insight into life at the time and the challenges presented during The Great War – we invite everyone to pop in to take a look.”
The care village on Lower Street, Newcastle-under-Lyme, is also holding its own Remembrance Service for the community (8 Nov, from 10:30am), inviting local people to join to watch a livestream of the National Service of Remembrance held at the Cenotaph on Whitehall, London. The screening will be followed by tea and cake and the chance for conversation and reflection.
