New Vic receives TWO Award Nominations

The New Vic Theatre is celebrating after receiving two award nominations at this year’s UK Theatre Awards 2019.

The theatre-in-the-round has been shortlisted as a finalist in two categories at this year’s awards: Best Show for Children and Young People and Most Welcoming Theatre.

Last year’s Tale Trail to The Wind In The Willows is nominated for Best Show For Children and Young People. The theatre’s Tale Trail productions are created specially for 3-5 year olds and each year take the youngest theatre audiences and their families on an interactive storytelling adventure. Last year’s production invited young theatregoers into the world of the classic story, The Wind In The Willows, in a specially written play by the New Vic’s Head of Education Jill Rezzano, and directed by Youth Theatre Director, Katherine Hughes.

The New Vic is also shortlisted as a national finalist in the Most Welcoming Theatre category. This is the second year running that the theatre has been shortlisted as a finalist, after being named regional winners – Most Welcoming Theatre 2018: West Midlands – at last year’s UK Theatre Awards.

Theresa Heskins, Artistic Director of New Vic Theatre said: “The UK Theatre Awards are the Olivier’s of regional theatre, recognising the amazing work that’s going on around the country. We couldn’t be more delighted to be named as finalists in the categories of UK Theatre’s Most Welcoming Theatre and Best Show for Children and Young People this year. To be shortlisted for these national awards is a real testament of our team’s dedication to creating exceptional work for our youngest theatregoers, and to providing an inclusive, friendly environment at our theatre.”

The annual UK Theatre awards are the only nationwide awards to celebrate outstanding achievements of regional and national theatre, with a judging panel of industry professionals deciding the overall winners. This year’s annual UK Theatre Awards take place on Sunday 27 October at London’s prestigious Guildhall, where the overall winners will be announced.
