Stoke on Trent professional boxer Jamie Delroy Stewart returned to the ring to be crowned the winner at a televised event.

It had been 12 months in total since Jamie had been in the ring – a long delay due to the pandemic – but it didn’t prevent the 27-year-old from shining on his return which was shown on Channel 5.

Up against Michael Hennessy Junior on Saturday 5th September, Jamie travelled to the Production Park Studios, in South Kirby to meet his opponent.

The fight -Jamie’s second professional fight –  went the full six rounds with Jamie being awarded the winning status on points.

“It was a good fight and I really believe I shone on the night,” said Jamie.

“I had been out of the ring for a long time, like a lot of boxers have recently, but I knew my fitness levels were there and I knew I had the power in me to have a good fight.

“It was great to be back in the ring and I’m hoping it won’t be long before I am out there again.”

Jamie is managed by Scott Lawton, who owns Impact Boxing Gym, in Longton and said during recent months himself and other fellow boxers have received fantastic support from his manager and the coaches there.

Jamie said: “Scott has been brilliant. He has helped us all and kept in contact all of the time when we couldn’t go to the gym. The gym is like a family and we all support each other – it’s great. I also would like to say massive thanks to Gaz Taylor and John Edmans who help me with coaching and general support – they have been brilliant.”

Scott Lawton, who manages several local boxers, said: “Jamie is a pleasure to work with, he really wants to make something of his boxing career and he wants to be one of the fighters that knows where his level is.

“He never asks for an easy ride in his bout or even in sparring. He also says the better the lad is, the better he performs and this is so true.  He did really well on his last fight and we are excited for his future.”

It’s without a doubt Jamie is fully committed to his training and admits boxing is – his life.

“Boxing has turned my life around, it really has,”  Jamie said. “Boxing is everything to me and I want to be the best I can be and I will always try my best.”
