International Women’s Day – REVIEW

international-womens-day-2023-image

@ BabaBaboon we publish many reviews…reviews from theatre & entertainment & sometimes other businesses too! Today this review is a little different and is a little blog about International Women’s Day 2023 – by our Founder & Editor Sonya Farrall

International Women’s Day – what does this mean?

“…a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women’s rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women…”

“FOR me, I will be totally honest, I did not start to celebrate or shout about International Women’s Day until I went alone in my career…on a new journey…a journey which took me to starting my own business – back to 2017/2018.

Prior to this it either wasn’t really ‘talked’ about much where I was before – or I didn’t have my eyes, ears or mind open to the wider world…one or the other…or both!

TODAY my eyes and ears were open – very much so at a business event (Weds 8 March 2023), which was hosted by the Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent. An event which 100% delivered on the said theme for this year.

Listening to the words, stories & poems from all of the guest speakers was amazing. Each and every one empowered in their own journey, empowered in their own mission – empowered to help others to achieve and to inspire.

My eyes, ears & mind all fully engrossed in the entire event – I did not care the packed room in which we all were sat watching was getting warmer & warmer as the time went by. I did not care I had one of those pesky tickles at the back of my throat doing its best to croak out loud. I did not care that on one of my ankles I could see a big white mark on my black tights, not forgetting the little dog hair which had been secretly placed by my dog before I had left the house!

All I cared about was I was there. I was there in a room full of amazing people – amazing ladies – all with a story to share.

Words were spoken which I related to more than once, words which reminded me – ‘we are all human,’ ‘we are we.’

I have heard similar things said before – along the lines of believing in ourselves & being confident – this was different today. Today I had my eyes, ears & mind firmly wide open – and I loved every minute.

I have my insecurities, I have my “imposter syndrome” moments (often) & I have had many doubts in running my own business – TODAY it felt right to share that…

Throughout the morning before the event, I’d also heard various things being asked in the media, such as – What would you say to your younger self? My question is – ‘What would you NOT say to yourself now – or your younger self? (Too many for me to include here today…)

Thank you to the INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY event with the Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce & huge thanks to all of the speakers – TODAY was a day to share!

I have met some incredible ladies near & far over the last few years, who are doing amazing things & inspire me daily. TODAY I also thank you all.

#HAPPYINTERNATIONALWOMEN’SDAY 2023!

Thank you from Sonya
