Former professional footballer joins finance firm for Evergreen Future

A former professional footballer has joined a team of experts in their mission to make finance more accessible to all.

Cliff Moyo, of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent spent almost a decade in football which saw him playing at international level.

Following a career ending injury, Cliff retrained and stepped into the world of finance as a protection advisor before gaining a Level 4 CII Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning.

Now, the thirty-two year old, is advancing with his career once again and has joined the expanding Evergreen Financial Planning as a Financial Advisor to boost the firms services throughout Staffordshire.

“Football taught me resilience when things do not go your way, grit to work hard and to build a foundation when the chips are down,” said Cliff.

“The experience I gained from football has really helped me to transition into the world of finance and it’s been a matter of adapting and altering the skills I already had and using them in a different environment.

“It was not easy by any means, but it is one that I am truly proud and grateful for.”

Cliff’s footballing career began at the age of 15, were he represented England Schoolboys at U15 and U16 level where he played in a tournament which was televised live on Sky Sports against countries such as Poland, Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, Wales, Northen Ireland, and Republic of Ireland.

At 18 Cliff signed his first professional contract for Barrow AFC and over the years went on to represent clubs such as Alfreton Town FC, Halifax Town FC, Guiseley AFC and Kidderminster Harriers FC.

It was during the time at Halifax Town when Cliff received his first Zimbabwe international call-up in 2017, and had his first outing with the team in a Four Nations tournament held in Zambia – a knockout stage tournament v South Africa, Angola and Zambia. Cliff’s national call-ups continued which went on to see him playing in front of 50,000 to 70,000 footballing fans.

Evergreen Financial Planning was formed in 2023 following the merger of two business owners Nathan Waldron and Ryan Nobbs and provides advice on a range of financial areas, including retirement planning, protection, investments and estate planning.

The firm has been expanding throughout the UK at rapid pace and now covers Staffordshire, the Midlands, Scotland and East London.

Cliff, whose last three years of his footballing career was as club captain at Kidderminster Harriers Football Club, is now working with the Evergreen Financial Planning team – including with Director Nathan Waldron –  to cover the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire areas.

“All I ever knew was football and when this stopped due to a career ending injury it gave me a different perspective and the importance of planning for the future.

“I want to help people not just for the short term but for the long term. There was a time in my life when I really needed help and due to my experience this motivated me to help make a difference in other people’s lives.

“Both my aim while working at Evergreen is to grow both professionally and personally and what better team to be part of than one that is constantly evolving, helping and encouraging each other.

“Nathan and Ryan have shown me their vision is not to be ordinary, but to make a positive impact in the financial industry. They carry a wealth of experience within the business, are making a powerful impact in the financial world and I wanted to be part of this exciting journey with them.”

Nathan, of Stone, said: “Cliff is a fantastic addition to the Evergreen team and brings not just his own life experiences of finance but also skills which work so well within the industry.

“We are delighted to have Cliff join us and he is a great member of the team.”
