Food folk and free family fun set for Stoke for the Bank Holiday weekend
Folk traditions, food and hands-on creative activity will take over a once-derelict site in Stoke-on-Trent as Brilliant Bamboo launches a new spring gathering for the city.
The free, family-friendly BAM Holiday Sunday event will take place on Sunday 3 May at the Brownfield Parklet in Stoke town centre, with people invited to drop in to the Boothen Road space between 11.30am and 4pm.

Visitors will be able to watch and take part in Morris dancing from Domesday Morris, join in with the Folk Dance Remixed maypole set to a mix of folk and hip-hop DJ sounds, and get involved in a range of creative workshops and activities throughout the day.
Artist and maker Anthony Hammond will lead the creation of a dead-hedge area using sustainably coppiced willow and materials from the site, while Holly Johnson and Eve Travis will present bespoke May Day headdresses and armbands, with the chance to make your own in a workshop led by Holly Johnson and Fran Buxton.
There will also be clay-making sessions with artist Olivia Azzopardi, while Chloe Rickett will be running bamboo-based workshop activities throughout the day, alongside opportunities to explore the evolving Brilliant Bamboo Brownfield Parklet space.
Food will be on sale from Neena’s Kitchen, with drinks also available to purchase throughout the day.
Gemma Thomas, founder of Brilliant Bamboo, said: “We wanted to create something that feels easy and joyful – a chance for people to come together, celebrate spring and enjoy this space in a different way.
“Visitors can drop in, stay as long as they like and be part of what we hope could become a new seasonal tradition for the city.”
