A step by step guide that you perhaps weren’t expecting from Stoke-
on-Trent.
Time Out magazine said earlier this year that Stoke-on-Trent was in their top 3 cities to visit in 2025.
Well, here is a little Saturday itinerary for you to follow which we think will be a pleasant surprise. After all, who doesn’t love to be the discoverer of something new?
Start with some top notch culture
Kick off the day with a visit to the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery (PMAG for short), who have just secured a nationally significant exhibition to be the first partner in The National Gallery’s new national touring project, The National Gallery: Art on Your Doorstep. Fifteen printed masterpieces will be installed in an outdoor exhibition in Bethesda Gardens, opposite The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery, bringing people and paintings together as part of the City’s Centenary celebrations.
PLUS, why not top it off with a visit to The Hoard, still the world’s
most exciting Saxon hoard of treasure and recently reimagined in a new exhibition space.
And – don’t forget Stoke-on-Trent’s very own Robbie Williams now also has artwork on display at the museum…more of that news HERE
Anyone hungry?
The tasty choices on offer are pretty much limitless in the city centre. From snacks to authentic cuisines from around the world (think Vietnamese, Italian, Mexican and more) and from award winning to desserts to dream of, there’s something for everyone.
A good start is to head up hill from the Museum (wave at Arnold Bennett) & straight to Piccadilly to dive into the all new Roberto’s Pizzeria.
Much loved for decades for authentic Italian food, Roberto’s has recently moved into a bright new, and bigger, space on the main foodie stretch.
Alternatively, you’ve got more choices like the multi award winning Slamwich, where you can get the perfect mix of the best sandwich in town and relaxed vibes or head all the way up to the outdoor market and discover steet food vendors like Tojo’s which serves a delicious mix of Nigerian and Jamaican treats.
If there’s any room left, try The Little Dessert Shop…
Shopping time
Up to The Potteries Centre via Piccadilly why not Drop off at Vellichor Books on your way to check out their cosy independent bookstore.
The top floor of the shopping centre has Staffordshire’s first ever Creative Department Store – Keep It Local – a beautifully curated store full of gifts, treasures and treats for everyone, all sourced from 100s of local and regional artists and makers.
From scented candles to handmade gifts, from collectable vinyl to vintage clothes. It’s always friendly and full of buzz and the tunes are great…
Finally a nice brew can be had in the indoor market located at the bottom of the centre – aways welcoming, bright and full of the unexpected.
What next?
After an exciting & positive day in Stoke-on-Trent’s much loved city centre, all we ask is for you to tell your friends. Be the pioneers who have rediscovered a city centre & influence everyone else to give it a try.
