Charity supports thousands of local households in eight years
A North Staffordshire charity – which helps to prevent homelessness – has supported more than six thousand local households to create a comfortable home in the last eight years ago.
Emmaus North Staffs first launched in Stoke-on-Trent when it took over the then Furniture Mine in 2017.
At the time Furniture Mine was known for its referral system and partnerships with housing associations with the aim to provide quality furniture items and white goods to those who could not afford their own.
Emmaus North Staffs continued with the work and has supported 6,400 households throughout Stoke-on-Trent and delivered 20,000 items of furniture and appliances to referral customers.

At the same time 2,400 tonnes of waste has been saved from going to landfill.
“Furniture Mine was a well established organisation when we took it over,” says Executive Lead of Emmaus North Staffs, John Webbe.
“We have continued to carry on with the vital work which had already begun in the area and in the last eight years we have gone on to support thousands of local families.
“During that time we have also worked with an amazing 240 volunteers who have helped us along the way.”
Part of Emmaus North Staffs’ work also saw the charity launch their Beds for Kids campaign two years ago.
Seven-hundred and fifty brand new bed kits have been delivered to Stoke-on-Trent children since 2023, which have included a brand new bed, mattress and bedding.
John adds: “As our charity grew over the years we discovered just how many children there are in the area who do not have a bed of their own.
“The numbers are quite staggering at around 9,000 plus children without a bed, and this continues to be an issue which does not seem to be going away.
“To be able to supply the new bed kits, and supporting families with other household items and furniture, our charity relies on donations.”
Emmaus North Staffs welcome quality furniture items and clothing to their store at New Hall Street, Hanley.
