Charity calls for furniture donations ahead of national Recycle Week
Emmaus North Staffs are marking national Recycle Week – which takes place from 22-28 September 2025 – with a call out to local people asking for any unwanted and quality furniture.
The charity, which works to end furniture poverty, provide a free furniture collection service throughout North Staffordshire.
Items can also be dropped off at the Emmaus North Staffs charity store, in New Hall Street, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent where they are then sold.
In the last eight years the charity has saved 2,400 tonnes of waste from landfill with 20,000 items of furniture and appliances delivered to referral customers.

“Donations of quality furniture are a real help for our charity and the local people we support,” says Executive Lead of Emmaus North Staffs, John Webbe.
“As well as helping to prevent thousands of tonnes of waste going to landfill, we have also been able to support 6,400 households throughout North Staffordshire.”
John adds: “We appreciate all donations of reusable furniture, which help us to support local households direct via our referral system, as well as from the funds which are raised from the items we can sell in our charity shop.
“Items including sofas, chairs and dining sets can really help to transform a household into a home as well as drawers, wardrobes and beds.”
Emmaus North Staffs referral system sees them partner with local housing associations to supply furniture and white goods with the aim to provide quality furniture to those who could not afford their own.
