Businesses support charity’s mission to provide beds for children this Christmas

ENS-beds-for-kids

Thanks to the support of a group of local businesses, a North Staffordshire charity has been able to meet some of the demand they are facing to supply young children with beds in the run up to Christmas.

Emmaus North Staffs originally launched their ‘Beds for Kids’ campaign earlier this year in an urgent response to enquiries for children’s beds.

Following one last call before the end of the year, the charity – who support people to move away from poverty – have already provided eight full single bed packs in December. Thanks to multiple donations the packs, which include a brand new bed, mattress and all bedding have been delivered in recent weeks to families in need throughout Stoke-on-Trent.

John Webbe, Executive Lead at Emmaus North Staffs, said: “Unfortunately, there are still so many young children under the age of eight who do not have their own bed – it’s heartbreaking and we wanted to help to change this as much as we can – which is why we first launched ‘Beds for Kids.’

“Emmaus North Staffs became a member of a local BNI Business Network earlier this year – called BNI@10 – and we have received some fantastic support from the group including recently with donations for our campaign, which has exceeded £1,000. This is fantastic and has really helped us to provide more bed packs in the run up to Christmas to some local families.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to My Mortgage Wizards, Do BookKeeping, ChattyDuck Media, Lyon Power Electrical Services, Eaglet Business Services and Adrian Hide Consulting. This support will really help to make a difference.”

Emmaus North Staffs – who have a Home & Furniture Warehouse shop in Etruria and a large charity shop in the Potteries Centre, Hanley – will also be looking to extend their campaign in 2023.

“Our campaign will not end at Christmas –  we will be continuously running this campaign as we look to help to provide as much support as we can,” says John.

“Having very little sleep, or no sleep, can have a serious affect on all of us, and even more so the physical and mental development of a young child in their formative years. No child in modern Britain should be without their own bed. We speak to hundreds of families each month, and for a child to be able to have their own comforts has such a positive impact in so many ways and transforms their lives for the good.

“A £150 donation helps us to provide a complete brand new bed pack, which we can also deliver to homes throughout Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding areas.

“If anyone would like to support our campaign please get in touch with us directly on 01782 846111, or pop into our shop or warehouse for details.”

Emmaus North Staffs partner with local councils and local housing associations – plus other charitable organisations – supplying furniture and white goods to those who need them most. The charity is also raising funds towards a long-term goal of setting up an Emmaus community for people who have experienced homelessness. This accommodation will offer a home, work experience, daily support and funded training to rebuild lives and will be the first of its kind in the county.
