Charity meal hosted by award-winning and Michelin-starred chefs at NSCG

Former multi award-winning chef and Staffordshire’s Godfather of the culinary scene, Matt Davies, who suffered a life-changing injury, is bringing together Michelin-starred chef Tom Shepherd, distinguished chef Sam Large and award-winning chef Ed Warrens, to host a charity night at Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) Stafford College.

Matt is the Vice-President of the British Culinary Federation (BCF) and has an incredible 40-year career in the culinary industry, having led an 80-strong brigade across six Michelin-listed and multi-AA Rosette restaurants in the Midlands. In 2017 Matt suffered a severe electronic shock which caused extensive damage to his left arm and required 70 operations over a seven year period.

Chronic pain and recurrent infections led to the amputation of Matt’s left arm in April 2024. Since then Matt has raised funds for the plastic surgery department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, Fisher House and Hospitality Action, who supported him through his numerous operations and recovery.

Matt will be taking over the College’s Riverbank Restaurant on Tuesday 3 June to host every foodie’s dream night, alongside his good friends Tom Shepherd, owner of Upstairs, the only Michelin-starred restaurant in Staffordshire, Ed Warren of Warren’s Resturant Staffordshire and Sam Large, Head Chef at supermodel Jodie Kidd’s pub, The Half Moon in Kirdford, will be creating a four-course meal.

The menu is yet to be revealed, but in the hands of these four culinary wizards is set to be a gastronomic delight. Money raised from the event will be donated to the plastic surgery department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and Fisher House, part of the hospital who provide free accommodation and support for families who have a loved one in hospital for long periods of time.

Fisher House receives no government funding; it relies solely on incredible supporters to keep its doors open and to keep the facility running for families in need.

Hospitality Action is a UK-based charity dedicated to supporting individuals who work or have worked in the hospitality industry and offers a range of services, acting as a crucial lifeline to help navigate personal and professional challenges. The charity supported Matt during his incredibly difficult time following his accident.

A group of current NSCG Stafford College students will be picked to assist in the preparation and service throughout the evening, providing an amazing opportunity to shadow four of the very best in the culinary world.

There are a limited number of tickets available for the evening, for more information and to secure your place email ri***********@*****ac.uk
