World Book Day at Stoke-on-Trent Libraries

library-image

A host of very special storytelling sessions have been organised to celebrate World Book Day across Stoke-on-Trent libraries.

Six sessions will take place across all of the library sites on Saturday 4 March to mark the annual celebration of reading.

From 10:30 am each library will host a storytelling session, plus each child will receive a free book from Stoke Reads.

Pre-school children will be presented with £1 discount vouchers as part of the Singing Bears, Bouncing Bears and Story Bears sessions during the week of World Book Day.

For adult readers, we also have the award-winning author Lisa Blower attending Longton Library on the same day (4 March) at 12:30 pm to talk about her latest novels.

Storytelling sessions at Stoke-on-Trent Libraries are as follows:

Bentilee Library – Kat Hughes

City Central Library – Alan Barrett

Longton Library – Sophia Hatfield

Meir Library – Ian Douglas

Stoke Library – Dominic Berry

Jenny Morgan – Tunstall Library

Cllr Lorraine Beardmore, cabinet member for culture, leisure and public health said: “World Book Day is back and bigger than ever in Stoke-on-Trent libraries. We are thrilled to be hosting an eclectic mix of storytelling sessions in all of our libraries on Saturday 4 March.

“We hope to see lots of friends old and new visit us this World Book Day at one of our wonderful 6 libraries and experience a snippet of what amazing things we’ve got going on. Libraries love to celebrate World Book Day but we also love to celebrate a love of reading all year round. We would love to see new visitors sign up as members of our fantastic libraries and experience our full offer, from borrowing books or e-magazines to audio books – we have something for everyone.

“Our libraries team also delivers a fantastic array of activities throughout the year in each of our 6 libraries, from babies’ first library experience at bouncing bears to pre-schoolers singing bears, or our amazing craft sessions or Lego club.

“As a special treat for our World Book Day celebrations, don’t forget we also have the fantastic Lisa Blower coming to Longton Library later in the day to share stories from her novels.”
