RECORD TRIP FOR TRAVIS AND IZAAK – SUPPORTING MEN UNITE

NINETY-TWO football league stadiums, 2298 miles, two friends – one huge charity mission – The Great British Football Road Trip.

Travis Collier and Izaak Derbyshire, of Stoke-on-Trent started their fundraising journey for local organisation Men Unite, at Swansea at 12 noon on Friday 15 July, before heading to Cardiff, Newport, Bristol City and Bristol Rovers.

Exeter and Plymouth followed on the way to Bournemouth Brighton, Portsmouth, and Southampton before the pair headed North of the UK, finishing the trip at Swindon, at 5:09am on Monday 18 July – hours ahead of the 74-hour anticipated timeline.

The mammoth trip was carried out in Men Unite’s branded van – which had already been donated to the charity previously by local firm Welfare Vans 4 Less

“We wanted to raise as much money and awareness for Men Unite as we can,” says 22-year-old Travis.

“Both myself and Izaak have experienced our own struggles with mental health over the years and therefore supporting Men Unite – who are a great organisation encouraging men to talk about things that are bothering them – is something very personal for us.

“We have enjoyed the whole journey, although it’s been tiring, but we were never going to stop.”

Travis and Izaak are also hoping to get into the Guinness Book of World Records.

“We are now looking at submitting an official application to the Guinness Book of World Records as we completed the challenge hours ahead of the last attempt.

“We finished in 65-hours and 9 minutes – and as far as we are aware the previous record was 74-hours and 19 minutes – so we are feeling confident.

“When we mapped out the trip we decided to take the most direct route and it paid off for us.”

Izaak, aged 21, added: “We loved doing this trip and we really want to thank everyone who has supported us so far. Men Unite is a charity close to our hearts and we want to raise as much awareness as we can.”

Craig Spillane of Men Unite said: “Izaak and Travis have done amazing and we cannot thank them enough for their support. On behalf of everyone at Men Unite we want to say a huge thank you and we hope they also get into the world records for this challenge.”
