New refurb to set new tone at Jubilee

jubilee-2-newcastle-under-lyme

Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council is set to invest in a substantial refurbishment of the gym at their popular town centre leisure facility, Jubilee2.

The ambitious plans are being considered as communities in the borough start to recover from the impacts of Covid-19 on both economy and health and as people strive for a healthier and more active post pandemic lifestyle.

Newcastle’s Cabinet will scrutinise the plans at their meeting next week and could approve an overall capital investment budget of up to £360,000 for the project.

The proposals include refreshing and extending the gym layout with a brand new suite of state-of-the-art fitness equipment and building on more opportunities for health referral training on site.

Cabinet member for leisure, culture and heritage, Jill Waring, said: “We think that this is an ideal time to make real and significant improvements for customers, old and new, at Jubilee2. We are coming out of the pandemic, people are venturing out and about once again and, looking to the future, want to set positive health and wellbeing goals for themselves and their families.

“The existing gym equipment is now ten years old, keeps breaking down and requires a lot of maintenance and technology has moved on apace in the last decade. The Council feels it is the right time to make sure that Jubilee2’s gym offer for customers is fit for the times.”

Jubilee’s existing fitness layout is split bluntly into cardiovascular and resistance equipment. The new proposals will offer four key ‘holistic’ areas of exercise; resistance, cardiovascular, functional training and toning. There will also be space for personal training activities, small group exercise classes and an enhanced referral programme.

Cabinet will discuss the plans on 13 October and, if approved, Alliance Leisure Services have been selected to deliver the project in compliance with the UK Leisure Framework tendering process.
