Staffordshire Staycation

National-memroial-arboretum-staffordshire

Families are being encouraged to opt for a Staffordshire staycation during the school Easter holidays – and at the same time help support local tourist attractions.

The county has hundreds of exciting locations and attractions and with further easing of Covid-19 restrictions from 12 April, many are expecting to reopen for business. Some businesses will still remain closed and others may have altered their opening times and before making a trip, people should visit the attraction’s website for specific details and booking arrangements.

Thrill seekers can enjoy the adrenaline rush of rides and roller coasters at the Alton Towers Resort and Drayton Manor Park, which both open from Monday 12 April.

A host of Easter activities are also available at many attractions including Trentham Gardens, where families can explore the Peter Rabbit garden trail. Families can also drop in and say hello to the monkeys at Trentham Monkey Forest, where they can walk amongst two troops of wild Barbary Macaques, roaming free in 60 acres of beautiful Staffordshire Forest.

Other locations include the county’s country parks. Cannock Chase offers beautiful scenery and picturesque views with a number of different trails, people can walk, bike, hike and explore the forests.

Staffordshire is also home to the National Memorial Arboretum; home to the iconic Armed Forces Memorial, where there are more than 150 acres of maturing woodland and gardens to explore.

Staffordshire County Council’s Libraries Service will also be entertaining families over Easter with their  Super Spies in Lockdown activity.  This free, online interactive performance will take place over two sessions in a private secure Zoom chat with Angel Exit Theatre. More details of the performance and how to book are available through the libraries Facebook page and on Twitter.

Darryl Eyers,  Director for Economy, Infrastructure and Skills at Staffordshire County Council said: “Staffordshire truly is an amazing county with so much on offer and as restrictions start to ease it’s the perfect time to try a staycation. We’re expecting a busy Easter with lots of our tourism and hospitality businesses starting to reopen, giving them a welcome boost from what has been a difficult year. So whether it’s our amazing theme parks, heritage sites, stunning locations or wonderful food and drink businesses, we’ll have something for all the family. Whatever you do, or wherever you end up, please continue to follow the official guidance to help reduce the spread of Coronavirus. Booking is also essential at most attractions, so please remember to visit their websites and Facebook pages for specific details before visiting.”

Staffordshire’s tourism economy is worth around £1.8 billion annually with around 25 million people enjoying day or overnight trips to the county. The sector also supports around 32,000 jobs.
