Presenting dream for Samara

A determined and inspirational young woman has landed a dream job as a presenter on a local community radio station.

Throughout her life Samara Hussain, who was born blind, has not let anything stand in the way of what she sets out to do.

After graduating in criminology Samara, who has her own guide dog – Yuma, went on to pursue a role working with young people in the area and earlier this year the 28-year-old, who has a passion for music and radio, went on to contact the owners of Ay Up Duck Radio – an online community radio station based in Hanley – and now also presents two shows each week.

samara“Being registered completely blind has presented me with quite a few setbacks over the years, but I will never let anything get in my way and I am so thrilled to be presenting on Ay Up Duck Radio – I really enjoy it,” said Samara.

“At first, I was afraid of approaching the station as I thought I would get turned down, but thankfully I was wrong and they welcomed me with open arms. The support I have received since has been absolutely phenomenal. I am so grateful to have been given this opportunity.”

Ay Up Duck Radio director Dave Johnson said: “When we founded the station last summer Rob Ledgar and I both agreed that there would be no barriers. If anybody is interested in presenting their own radio show, or indeed volunteering to be part of our team in any other way, we will offer all the necessary encouragement.”

If you would like to listen to Samara presenting her shows go online to www.ayupduckradio.co.uk . Samara’s, “Pick-A-Mix” show, can be heard on Mondays at 3pm and “Time to Party” on Fridays at 5pm.

If you are interested in any of the opportunities on offer at Ay Up Duck Radio, or would like more information, please contact the station by email in**@**************co.uk
