Brampton Museum Reopening

brampton-museum

Staff at Newcastle’s popular Brampton Museum are preparing to reopen the museum and gallery to the public next week for the first time since the lockdown and with new Covid Secure measurements in place.

Initially, the museum will be open to the public from Monday to Friday only, from 1-5pm, with visits restricted to the ground floor. Social distancing is not possible on the first floor so it will remain closed. To make sure that social distancing can be in place at all times on the ground floor, the flow of movement around the museum has been redesigned and will be one-way only. The main entrance will be closed and the rear fire door will be used as the temporary entrance. Another door, which leads out on to the car park, will be used as the exit.

Cabinet member for leisure, culture and heritage, Jill Waring, said: “We are looking forward to reopening to our visitors. We know through social media that the museum and the museum staff have been missed throughout lockdown. We have put in place the necessary changes to activities and the way people progress through the layout of the building – a museum tour, if you like – to make the displays and activities safe for everyone to enjoy. We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors, old and new, to our ‘little gem’ of a museum.”

New arrangements mean that the museum will only accommodate 12 people at a time, on a one-out one-in basis. Payment for any items will be card only.

In keeping with the government’s requirements for ‘track and trace’ all visitors will be required to submit contact details. To maintain hygiene standards and safety measures hand sanitiser will be available on entry.

The museum will close between 3pm and 3.15pm each day for touch point cleaning.
The museum will reopen on Monday 27 July at 1pm.
