Newcastle-under-Lyme Care Village Safeguards Against Covid-19

State-of-the-art care village, Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme, one of seven villages in the group operated by not-for-profit care provider, Belong, has closed its core facilities to all but essential visitors as part of the organisation’s strategy to safeguard residents and carers during the Coronavirus outbreak.

In line with other group villages, Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme, situated on Lower Street, will implement a multi-point plan to protect those customers in the most vulnerable age group, as well as support workers on the front line.

Only visitors classified as significant to residents’ life plans, and imperative to their wellbeing, such as health workers and designated family members, will be allowed to visit for the foreseeable future. Commenting on the restrictions, Belong deputy chief executive, Tracy Paine, said: “This is an unprecedented time for the care sector and requires actions to protect those within our care, whilst ensuring that they are not completely isolated from the rest of society or from their loved ones. Those people still able to visit Belong will be screened in the village’s reception areas, before being allowed access, and there are robust hand hygiene and monitored infection control procedures in place to bolster an already stringent cleaning regime. We are also looking at ways to support people remotely in the community and those in the independent living apartments within our villages for as long as is necessary. Additionally, colleagues will also be protected and monitored to ensure their wellbeing during this important time.”

Part of Belong’s plan also includes the enlisting of former employees, and recently retired care workers, to work or volunteer in the village as cover for any staff needing to self-isolate.
