The 39 Steps Returns to the New Vic

The New Vic revives its sensational production of The 39 Steps this March, as it brings the hugely popular production back to the stage for audiences to enjoy once more.

Reuniting the cast of Rebecca Brewer, Gareth Cassidy, Michael Hugo and Isaac Stanmore, the thrilling spy drama will return to the theatre in-the-round from Thursday 6 until Saturday 28 March.

The inventive reworking of John Buchan’s classic thriller sees Richard Hannay, upstanding gent and all-round good guy, find himself in a bit of a pickle when he wakes up to discover a mysterious woman in his apartment. Dead. Now on the run, pursued by all manner of suspicious characters, can Hannay evade capture and clear his name of murder before it’s too late? Will he fall in love along the way? And what exactly are The 39 Steps?

New Vic Artistic Director Theresa Heskins said: “In rehearsal for The 39 Steps last year, I regularly laughed until I cried. It was a delight to see audiences responding the same way, and then returning for a second visit, wanting to share the hilarity with friends and family. We knew we had to bring the show back. I’m bracing myself for another draught of this laughter tonic, and looking forward to sharing this heady brew with friends old and new.”

This hilarious production brings back together returning New Vic favourites Rebecca Brewer (Votes For Women, Playhouse Creatures) as Annabella Schmidt/Margaret/Pamela, Gareth Cassidy (Astley’s Astounding Adventures, Treasure Island) as clown, Michael Hugo (Around The World In 80 Days, Cyrano) also as clown, and Isaac Stanmore (Peter Pan In Scarlet, Kiss Me Quickstep) as Richard Hannay. Between them, the cast will play over 120 characters, bringing to life the fast-paced caper in true style.

Tickets are on sale now priced from £15.50 from the New Vic Theatre Box Office and can be booked by calling 01782 717962 or online at newvictheatre.org.uk.
