Superhero Exhibition at the Potteries Museum

kapow-exhibition-potteries-museum

Superhero fans can discover more about the huge impact of their favourite characters at a new Potteries Museum & Art Gallery exhibition.

The display, curated by DuoVision, explores the influence of superheroes, superheroines and supervillains on art and design and showcases the work of artists who have contributed to huge blockbuster Hollywood films such as Thor and Captain America.

The exhibition – Kapow – The Art of Superheroes and Villains features paintings, photography, fashion, costume design, ceramics and illustrations.

The display includes work by artists Duggie Fields, Jason Atomic, and Emma Rodgers, costume designers Whitaker Malem and Michael Wilkinson and many more.

Councillor Lorraine Beardmore, cabinet member for culture, sport and leisure, said: “Superheroes are such a massive part of our culture at the moment – so this is a fantastic chance for fans in Stoke-on-Trent and beyond to geek out about the huge impact they’ve had. For anyone who doesn’t know their Iron Man from their Superman, it’s a real insight into just how much these characters are part of our everyday lives. They influence everything from our kids’ clothes to Oscar-nominated films – and this exhibition is a great celebration of that. We’re really excited that the curators wanted to bring the display here to Stoke-on-Trent. It shows again how alive the city is with culture and how many diverse and interesting events and attractions we are bringing here.”

It is suggested parts of the exhibition may be unsuitable for younger visitors and the recommended age is 16 years and over. Tickets are £5, concessions £3, or free with a National Art Pass. The exhibition runs until Sunday, September 27.

For families with children, the museum also has Iron Man Hulkbuster and The Thing models on display within the museum for families to have their photo taken with. For other activities and events at the museum head over to BabaBaboon’s What’s ON here.
