The Little Mermaid at the New Vic – Review
Glitz, glamour, mesmerising mermaids, live music and a magnificent stage setting is what makes this festive treat ‘Fin-tastic’ – Review by Sonya Farrall.
The creativity of the set and sound effects, instantly immerses the audience under the sea for a journey full of hopes and dreams.
Coralie’s curiosity sees her wanting to explore something bigger than the coral reefs and rocks she has been accustomed to, and it is with persistence and determination which leads her to have a meeting with the Sea Witch.

Soon after their meeting, Coralie’s adventure with humans outside of the sea world she has always known begins – but not without consequences.
To add to the effects, powerful live music and faultless circus skills are intertwined throughout by most of the characters, while the vibrant costumes all add to the excitement – and at times drama.
Harrison Sweeney brings about the eeriness of the Sea Witch in true captivating style and Rhiannon Skerritt is flawless as the innocent Coralie, plus Ines Sampaio’s energy radiates throughout when performing stunning vocals as Red Whip Coral.
It must also be noted that the creative puppetry is also a delight to watch and all helps with the under water, magical atmosphere.
The Little Mermaid is a show for all of the family. It is fast, entertaining and allows for the imagination to be transported to another world – under the sea – for a breathtaking experience.
The Little Mermaid is at the New Vic until Saturday 24 January, 2026. For more details please visit the New Vic HERE
