Golfers teeing up for Charity fundraiser to support ‘Beds for Kids’

Members of a community Rotary Club are hosting a fundraising golf day to support local children who do not have a bed of their own.

Twelve teams are set to take part in the charity event, which is being organised by Newcastle-under-Lyme Rotary Club and will take place on Wednesday 2 July.

Fifty per cent of the funds raised will go towards supporting the ‘Beds for Kids’ campaign, which is run by Emmaus North Staffs – who help to end furniture poverty.

Beds for Kids launched in 2022, and so far more than 400 brand new bed kits made up of a brand new bed, mattress and bedding delivered to families across Stoke-on-Trent.

The fundraising event with the Rotary Club will take place at Newcastle-under-Lyme Golf Club and will help Emmaus North Staffs to reach more families in the Borough.

Bob Bell, President of Newcastle-under-Lyme Rotary Club, first heard about the work Emmaus North Staffs do at a community event in which Executive Lead of the Charity, John Webbe spoke a few words about the work they do.

Bob said: “Emmaus North Staffs are doing so many great things locally and when I heard John speak about the work they do with Beds for Kids in helping local families, it really touched a heart string.

“It is staggering to learn how many local children do not have a bed of their own across the area and when I spoke to John I also asked if there was a problem in the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme, and he said yes.

“I spoke to my club members and we decided we would like to do something to help, which is why the charity is part of our big fundraising event in July.”

John said: “It is really good of the Rotary Club to support us with their event and we thank them for what they are doing.

“There are still a staggering 8,000 children across Stoke-on-Trent who do not have a bed of their own and in Newcastle-under-Lyme the figures are approximately 2000.

“We have been supporting families with brand new bed kits for three years now and we are aiming to reach 100 more in the next six months.”

Emmaus North Staffs is based in New Hall Street, in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent where their large furniture and home emporium is open to the public six days a week.

Some funds from the Rotary Club’s golfing fundraiser will also go towards Prostate Cancer UK.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available for the event on 2 July and anyone who would like to support the Rotary Club’s charity event are asked to contact Jean-Louis Ambert on 07903019004 or email  jl*******@*ol.com
