M CLUB HOSTS THE FIRST OF ITS KIND FREE SUPPORT GROUP EXCLUSIVELY FOR MEN
M Club Spa and Fitness and North Staffs Mind have joined together to offer the first of its kind male support group called ‘Mindful Men’ which focuses on both physical and mental health for members and non-members of the club.
The group which is run by a fully qualified Counsellor and Personal Trainer at M Club Hanley on Tuesday Evenings 6-8pm and aims to support men through both their physical and mental journey.
Anthony, a senior counsellor at North Staffs Mind is leading the group. He said: “I am excited to have been able to launch this project because men are less likely to access mental health services, and I think the combination of physical and emotional wellbeing go hand in hand.”
Anthony has been through his own journey of counselling which has helped him and hopes this group will do the same for many others.

The group is funded by the money raised by Mike Copeland (AKA-The Fridge Man) who, became a bodybuilder when he left the Army and suffered with his own mental health.
He climbed the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro with a domestic fridge on his back to raise awareness of mental health issues that affect 1 in 4 people today.
Mike’s message says: ‘You’re not weak if you speak up about mental health’
With more than 20k raised, the groups will be able to support men like Mike who have struggled to carry the burden of poor mental health around with them 24/7.
Joe Boote, assistant manager of M Club Spa and Fitness, added: “The amount of men who utilise our facilities to cope with their mental struggles is staggering and I am a huge advocate of supporting both the physical and mental health of all men and where better to host these free groups than here at M Club Spa and Fitness.”
The groups are based on the ‘5 Ways of Wellbeing’ and will be open to members and non-members of the club. They will encourage social connection, physical activity, mindfulness, learning and kindness to enhance self-worth, mood and confidence.
Wayne Goodall, Chief Operating Officer of the Waterworld Group, said: “We are so proud to see the sponsorship money going towards such an important topic of men’s health and we look forward to helping break the stigma of male mental health and supporting members of the community with their journeys.”
